Last weekend, our very own Jan Hutyra successfully completed Ironman Wales in Tenby. An amazing achievement, that overall included a 2.4 mile (3.8km) swim off of Tenby’s famous North Beach, a 112 mile (180.2km) bike ride throughout Pembrokeshire and a 26.2 mile (42.2km) run.

Many suggest that Tenby is arguably one of the more difficult Ironman destinations around given the hilly terrain and to add to the significant challenge, the temperature reached a high of 24 degrees Celsius during the day. However, Jan managed to finish all 3 events within 15 hours and 20 minutes, wrapping things up well before the 17 hour time limit.

Jan was also pleased to have the support of CCS McLays colleague, Mark Greedy who has also completed a staggering 12 Ironman races to date (pictured below).

Prior to the race, Jan was adamant that this would be his first and final entry for a full Ironman, “Really I’m just looking to get through it. My friend has signed up to Ironman Frankfurt, but there is zero chance I’m jumping on that!”

When asked whether he shared the same sentiment following the race there appeared to be less conviction in his response, also revealing that he is signed up to a half marathon (13.1 mile run) this Sunday 10th September, 2023. Some would suggest that it could prove a mere cool down for Jan following Tenby!
